Must Accomplish Memorial Day Activities

Memorial Weekend is quickly approaching and it could only mean one thing: Summer has officially arrived!!!

I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free!

I’m going to be honest here, for the longest time I had no idea that Memorial Day unofficially marked the beginning of summer, I was clueless for so many years! But to be fair I grew up in ‘Military City USA’ (San Antonio, TX) and yes, you guessed it, Patriotic holidays were always a big deal in my hometown. So, whether you’re spending this Memorial Day weekend reuniting with family and friends or sunbathing on the beach, it’s important to remember why we celebrate this very special holiday. Memorial Day is a day of “National Mourning” in which we honor the heroes who have sacrificed their lives to protect our nation’s freedom.

What better way to spend Memorial Day than to celebrate the lives of those who give back to those who served our country:

1) Volunteer to help replace worn out grave markers/flags of deceased veterans at local cemeteries.

2) Wear a poppy. Purchase them from your local veterans groups (VFW, American Legion) each poppy purchase is a donation towards assisting disabled veterans in surrounding communities.

3) Take part in Memorial Day Charity runs: It’s a fun way to raise money for your local veterans groups and current military families in your surrounding community while getting your body beach ready.

4) Reach out to Military families. Operation Homefront and Operation Gratitude are great organizations allow you to give back to those who have given up their lives for our freedom.

Don’t forget to honor our fallen heroes at 3 p.m. locally on Memorial Day during the National Moment of Remembrance.

Kid President’s Finals Week Pep Talk

The end of the semester is quickly approaching which can only mean one thing…*cue dramatic music and lightning* Finals week is upon us.  Ugh, didn’t just the mention of finals week make your brain hurt? I know mine does. As the semester draws to a close, I think it’s safe to say that we’re all starting to feel a little burnt out. Hey don’t worry! How to Make Your Own Infused Waters

It’s no surprise that my Pinterest feed these past few weeks have consisted of colorful bikinis, floral prints, pastel colors, and spring décor. But my favorite trend of the season? Infused water.

For the longest time I couldn’t bring myself to drink water, it was just so bland compared to my favorite fizzy soda pop flavors. However, last semester a friend of mine introduced me to infused water, and I was instantly hooked. Infused water helps make staying hydrated fun, offers a dose of essential vitamins, gently cleanses your body and works as a natural skin care. But, the best part about it all? It’s such a quick and easy process, it takes just under 5 minutes to prepare!

Making your own infused water is quick and simple! Here’s how to make your own infused water:

Step 1: Fill a pitcher with water,

Step 2: add thinly sliced fruits, herbs or spices and ice

Step 3: chill in the refrigerator.

For stronger flavored water, prepare it a day ahead and keep it in the fridge overnight before drinking, The fruit should stay fresh as long as you keep your water refrigerated, and should be consumed in 3-5 days. That’s it! No fancy gadgets or confusing recipe cards, it’s simple as 1,2,3.

I caught you. I know your dirty little secret.  It’s okay that you’re watching Netflix instead of studying like you’re supposed to be. Hey it’s cool, I’m not judging. I, myself have procrastinated for hours with the help of Netflix. So, today I decided to share with you my top 3 most watched Netflix shows.

1. New Girl- I love Zooey Deschanel’s quirky charm so it’s natural New Girl is one of my favorite TV shows. New Girl is about a down-on-her-luck school teacher, Jessica Day, who moved in with three male strangers after she caught her boyfriend cheating on her. Each episode focuses on the growing relationship between the 4 roommates and the hilarious situations they somehow manage to get tangled in. If you love quirky and corny jokes then this is the show for you!

2.  Mad Men- Okay, I admit it…I am currently counting down the days till the season 7 premier of Mad Men on April 11th. I can’t help it, I’m addicted. Mad Men is an AMC original series about a Top New York advertising company in the 1960′s. It follows the lives of both the men and women who work in the office. This series is filled to the brim with office scandals, heartbreak, 60’s fashion and extraordinary pick up lines. If you love a good love pentagon then make sure you check this show out.

3. Sherlock- If you’re attracted to chiseled cheek bones then you will definitely love starring at Benedict Cumberbatch in BBC’s Sherlock. The modern adaption puts you side by side with Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as they scramble to solve mysteries. Each episode is 2 hours long and full of clever, extremely witty and surprising endings. Be careful, you’ll get hooked. Goodbye GPA, Hellloooo Benedict.

Let’s be honest, we all know you’ve been counting down the days until Spring Break since the beginning of the semester, shoot I know I have. Well Guess what Amigos and Amigas?  SPRING BREAK HAS FINALLY ARRIVED.  (Insert crazy happy dance) Please pardon my excitement, but the thought of no lectures or due dates for an entire week just makes my brain sigh in relief.
